Quote of the Day: To Write is to Live Forever?

Tina Fey: “It has been said that to write is to live forever.”

Steve Martin: “The man who said that is dead.”

Fey: “Yet, we all know the importance of writing, because every great movie begins with a great screenplay.”

Martin: “Or, a very good idea for the poster. But usually, with a screenplay.”

Fey: “And every writer starts with a blank page.”

Martin: “And every blank page was once a tree.”

Fey: “And every tree was once a tiny seed.”

Martin: “And every tiny seed on Earth was placed here by the alien king Rondelay, to foster our titrates and fuel our positive transfers!”

Dear WordPress, I kinda think you are cool…

The folks at WordPress sent me my 2010 blog year in review… considering this has been my most neglected blog in 2010, it kinda made me smile.  Because I know 2011 is going to be so much more awesome.  Thanks!

The stats helper monkeys at WordPress.com mulled over how this blog did in 2010, and here’s a high level summary of its overall blog health:

For the Bibliophile Who Has it All

Can’t find a gift for the wordy, nerdy and bookish on your list?  Penguin books presents the best holiday gift ever:

1. Who isn’t secretly lusting over a slightly used, ORANGE mini-cooper?  The ultimate character car.  Car with character? Car that could become a character? You choose.

2. Who wouldn’t kill to have said car graffiti-fied by Penguin legends like William Kennedy, Sue Monk Kidd and Rosanne Cash (18 Penguin Authors in all)?

3.  The absolutely reasonable asking price of $30k includes…a collection of top Penguin titles over the last 75 years.  Yes… the car comes with $1200 worth of books.

I really don’t know what else there could be to discuss, and amazingly as of today AutoTrader .com still confirms the car has not been snatched up. Go. Shop. Spend. All proceeds benefit the NY Public Library.

(P.S. if you are purchasing for me as a gift, just shoot me an email and I’ll gladly send you a shipping destination)

Today’s Writing Prompt

“You and a friend have just finished a lovely meal at your favorite restaurant. But things take a turn when you notice that the waiter has scribbled an unexpected—and startling—message on your bill. Write this scene.”

And when you are done, just for fun head over to the WD forums and see what others have done with the same prompt.  You’ll reinforce in your own mind how truly unique you really are!

As always feel free to post your work here in the comments as well!  We’d love to see where your mind flies!
